Mind-Body-Soul Connection
The physical body is the home of the soul, it is also the messenger of the soul. And that my friend is one of my most favourite aspects of how we traverse the journey of body, mind, soul alignment.
In this post I hope to bring to you new awareness that can guide you to feeling, lighter, having more clarity and peace in you mind and heart.
The mind, body, and soul truly are one, yet we most often live as if all 3 are some kind of separate part of us rather than being whole. I noticed how many of my clients would express any upset, illness or pain they were experiencing as if it defined them like it was an aspect of them. Basically framing a pain or illness as if it was who they were, "my migraines", "my period"
Our mind, body and soul are one, the connection is not like a filing cabinet where things are separated. Instead each aspect of our whole, influences each other in ways that are often subtle but profound. Through my years in health, fitness and wellness I found that the Holistic approach offers us the ways to be more in alignment, emotionally and spiritually.
Our emotional and mental well-being can significantly affect physical health. This concept has been explored by various healing traditions. One of the most ancient being Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and another is Ayurvedic medicine. When I studied these ancient traditions I was immediately captivated by the way they were able to show the intricate connection between our organs, thoughts and emotions. All of which explains how the state of your emotions and spirit can impact the functioning of your body’s organs.
"The Science"..as a long time practitioner of holistic wellness and spirituality I am not one to ask about "the science" if that is where your beliefs lie then we part company here.
I saw enough of "the science" when I was nurse and in fact it was through those experiences that I began my quest to wanting to know just what is illness, disease and dying!
We all know that when we experience a great tragedy, trauma or loss we feel it in our body, right!?
What I have found over the 40 plus years of my quest is that for most people these physical experiences are ignored until either it is suffocated by medication or it is too late and there is no return to good health and harmony between mind body and soul.
Behind Emotions and Physical Health
There is a clear and noticeable connection between emotions and the physiological effect on the body. When we experience strong emotions like stress, fear, or sadness, our bodies release hormones (one being cortisol) that can affect the immune system, digestion, and cardiovascular health.
These are a few of the ways that we can notice the connection between the mind and body at these times of high emotions:
Stress and Immune Function: Chronic stress can suppress the immune system, making the body more susceptible to illness.
Emotional Impact on the Heart: Emotional pain or heartbreak can have a direct impact on heart health, sometimes contributing to conditions like heart disease or arrhythmia's. In fact I remember a dear old lady who passed away of a broken heart after the loss of her husband. And in my own personal experience I know the impact grief over the loss of my Rottie dog had on my heart.
Digestive Issues from Anxiety: People often experience digestive problems, such as stomachaches, nausea, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), when they are anxious or stressed. Have you ever seen a child who is beside themselves in tears at a dinner table, they can not eat!
The Spiritual Aspect: Energy and Emotions
This aspect could be said to one that I am very biased to.
In my 40 plus year quest to know just what is illness, disease and dying I have had the most amazing encounters with the spirit/souls of humans who have passed from this world, actually those encounters happened while I was nursing which was nothing short of deeply humbling and incredible.
But today I want to share with you that the very best way to live a life that is powerfully well, happy and harmonious is to know the spiritual aspect of yourself better than you know your coffee!
I mentioned earlier in this post that the body is the home of the soul.
One thing that science has failed to find is the essence of you, that is your soul. Having been the surgeons scrub nurse I can say you can not be seen with the human eyes! One thing that science has agreed is that the body carries electrical circuits. Therefore we are a being of energy.
Every organ, muscle, and cell in the body hold energetic frequencies. Emotions, or energy- in -motion —“e-motions. Emotions are a high level of energy or a very low energy such as depression or sadness. When we suppress or ignore certain emotions, this stagnant energy can manifest physically in the form of illness or pain.
To be spiritually aligned with ones heart and soul means embracing healing practices that focus on clearing these blockages and bringing balance to the body’s energy systems.
For instance, in chakra healing, each chakra corresponds to a part of the body and certain emotional and spiritual traits:
The root chakra, associated with the kidneys and bladder, relates to feelings of safety and security. Emotional instability in this area may manifest as physical issues such as lower back pain or digestive problems.
The heart chakra corresponds to the heart and lungs and is tied to love, compassion, and forgiveness. Blockages in the heart chakra could lead to heart disease or respiratory issues.
The solar plexus chakra influences the stomach and digestive system and is linked to self-esteem, power, and control. Emotional issues around confidence or anger can manifest as digestive discomfort, such as ulcers or acid reflux.
Emotional Blockages and Their Physical Manifestations
Certain emotions, when not properly processed, can "get stuck" in the body and cause physical ailments. Here’s how some of the most common emotions manifest in specific organs:
Anger and the Liver: The liver is often associated with anger, resentment, and frustration in holistic health practices. Unresolved anger can accumulate in the liver, causing symptoms like irritability, headaches, or digestive disturbances.
Fear and the Kidneys: Fear is deeply connected to the kidneys, which are considered the seat of vitality and life force in many cultures. Prolonged fear can lead to issues like kidney stones, adrenal fatigue, or low energy.
Grief and the Lungs: The lungs are linked to grief and sorrow. When we are grieving, we may experience tightness in the chest, shallow breathing, or even respiratory infections.
Worry and the Stomach: Worry, especially chronic worry or anxiety, can affect the digestive system. People often experience stomachaches, nausea, or discomfort when feeling anxious, and long-term stress can lead to more serious gastrointestinal issues.
The Role of Emotional Healing in Physical Health
Recognising the emotional root causes of physical ailments is a powerful tool for healing. Addressing the emotional and spiritual dimensions of an illness often leads to faster and more lasting recovery. This can include practices such as:
EFT; Emotional Freedom Technique; tapping: A powerful practice that clears blocked energy.
Meditation and Stillness: These 2 practices help you become aware of your emotions and release emotional blockages, promoting inner peace and emotional balance.
Energy Healing: This practice is one that I specialise in. I have seen the most wonderful changes take place in my clients following a session of deep Divine light healing.
Other techniques are Reiki and acupuncture both clear energetic blockages in the body, facilitating emotional healing and improve organ function.
Forgiveness and Letting Go: Learning to forgive—both others and yourself—can be incredibly freeing. Holding on to grudges and old hurts can create long-term emotional and physical stress. These practices take time to master but making a start today with one small step at a time you will find miracles begin to occur in your life every day.
